Improvement of drilling performance can be achieved in deep, hard rocks using high pressure water jetting and percussion drilling. This study presents the results of testing the first prototype of a mud hammer with high pressure nozzle for peripheral rock slotting. The parameters that can be further optimised in designing the prototype are highlighed.
