Abstract

In the BMWK founded research project „well:ness“ the use of ground water for the heat and cold supply of the university hospital Cologne is accompanied metrological. In the final step the geothermal plant will consist of eight wells which are connected via a circular piping system. A heat demand of 3,3 MW will be covered.

Within the extensive monitoring of the supplied buildings and the heating and cooling facilities optimization strategies for the plant layout and the operation are validated. The goal is the increase of the energy efficiency and the reduction of the emissions. Another part of the research project is the development of a simulation model of buildings and the complex heating and cooling facilities. The well-system is embedded in the simulation model. In case studies control and operation strategies are evaluated, recommendations are derived. Usable suggestions for planning and operating of well-systems for the heat and cold supply of comparable greater properties are developed.
